Mindfulness vs. Mindlessness Series
In my Intermediate Drawing class, I completed a research project centered on mindful versus "mindless" states of mind. I spent the semester reading Eastern and Western scholarly sources to inspire these pieces.
I created each piece by writing a reflection on the focus of the piece and then creating small prototypes (work-in-progress shown below) to determine the composition of the work. Then, I mapped out the general placement of each piece onto one layer of paper, used tracing paper to trace each shape, and then an exacto knife to cut a second layer of paper to glue on top of the first layer. After all the pieces were glued down, I accented some areas with a diluted gouache/ink mixture for added definition.
